Sculpture: Words of Steel

"Brilliance"
"Words of Steel" by Joe O’Connell and Blessing Hancock

A series of six typographic "lantern" sculptures, each featuring phrases in many languages, were commissioned by the city of Palo Alto for public exhibit throughout the plaza between the Palo Alto Main Library and Arts Center.  The sculptures are made up of multi-lingual phrases collected from the community, cut out of steel and welded together in three-dimensional lantern-like forms.  Each of the sculptures lights up at sundown, and each sculpture is equipped with LED lights that change color upon being touched by a passerby.
